This home was designed for Tristan’s longtime friends - a family her children grew up alongside- making the process that much more personal. Completed in three distinct phases, the project was approached holistically, with each stage building onto the next to ensure the home functioned as a cohesive whole, not a series of one-off spaces.
Early on, the home revealed itself to be over-framed, limiting the flow. By opening it up, the layout became more connected, which was great for family gatherings. Outside, removing the Juliet balcony allowed the architecture to feel more grounded and better aligned with the surrounding Washington landscape. The result is a home that feels cohesive and considered - shaped over time and designed to live as beautifully as it looks.
